# What is Standby

Standby keeps a customizable web panel close without taking over your desktop.

Shake the mouse to reveal the panel beside the pointer; shake again or press Esc to tuck it away. You can also record a global keyboard shortcut to summon it from any app. Point the panel at any site you use throughout the day — ask an AI, look up docs, take notes, right at hand.

# FAQ

The panel doesn't show up when I shake? Check that Automatic Summon is enabled in Settings → Interaction, or raise the shake sensitivity. You can always summon the panel from the menu bar icon, the Dock icon, or the global shortcut.

How do I change the website in the panel? Settings → General → Panel Address — enter any HTTP/HTTPS address and apply.

Does Standby collect my data? No. Standby has no developer-operated accounts, analytics, or tracking. Website data is stored locally on your Mac through macOS WebKit. See the privacy policy (opens new window).
